Look back to Diana's wedding

Inevitably comparisons will be made between Prince Charles’ first wedding in 1981 to Lady Diana Spencer, and the 2005 marriage ceremony with Mrs Camilla Parker Bowles.

Can you remember what the atmosphere in Britain was like at the time? Much of the rest of the world was also far more interested then than they seem to be now. Was it that people were dreaming of a future Queen of England? Or Diana’s beauty, or the love of a fairytale?

Princess Diana and Prince Charles kiss

Does it make a difference that Prince Charles’ new wife will not have the title of ‘Princess’? Will it limit her profile, both at home and on royal duties abroad, to the detriment of Britain? Or will Camilla be accepted as being her own person?

This all comes down to a question of camparisons. Princess Diana had (and still has) millions of fans, and she also had plenty of critics. Will the history of the past relationship between the Prince of Wales and Mrs Parker Bowles be held against them both, thus loosing them significant support?
